Learn Coding through creating your Mario Game!
Mario Day 1
Introduction to Tynker and Mario Game
This session serves as a light-hearted introduction to Tynker and the Super Mario game. Students will learn about game design and theory of a platformer game.
Students can unleash their creativity as they create their own sounds, characters, enemies, coin systems, platforms and backgrounds.
They will be concentrating on designing their main character – Super Mario and learning the concepts of gravity, random and loops. Students will learn to code making Mario interact with the game environment such as the fighting the enemy, saving the princess, collecting coins, etc.
Mario Day 2
Introduce coordinates and enhancement of the game
This session allows students to focus on the concept of coordinates as it is require to have an understanding to create a platformer game. Using this concept, they would learn how to program obstacles (i.e. pipes) to reappear at the exact coordinate when Super Mario collides with them.
Students can use their own imagination by making the game interactable disappear with animations and sound effects. Also, deepen their knowledge of conditions and revise the programming concepts learnt in the previous sessions. Students are tasked to complete their platformer game after learning the basics in the previous session.
In addition, students are encouraged to play their classmates’ game so as to get feedback and re-adjust their game to make it more interactive and user-friendly.
